Fain Environmental performed a geomorphic assessment to inform a culvert replacement where Hobo Creek crosses Cedar Falls Road. Hobo Creek is a non-natural stream that is the result of manmade reservoirs in the Cedar River Watershed. The goal of the project is to eliminate flooding over Cedar Falls Road and provide fish passage. We measured the bankfull widths of the channel and measured cross sections to be used for hydraulic modeling. We also evaluated stream scour and sediment grain size of a reference reach to inform the design of the new culvert. GIS and survey data were then used to develop a vertical profile and map of the creek. We will provide guidance for large wood placement and other habitat features.
